We’re proud to share that Aleksandros has started working at Jumbo Maritime!
Landing a role that aligns with your background, skills, and ambitions is never easy, especially when starting a new chapter in a foreign country. For Aleksandros, originally from Greece, this challenge became a journey of growth and learning – one that led him to Jumbo Maritime, a key player in the heavy-lift shipping industry.
Aleksandros joined the Jumbo Maritime team earlier this year and has already made a remarkable impression. During his first months, he contributed to emission reporting tasks and focused on understanding the company’s internal systems. More recently, he has taken on the responsibility of preparing invoices for a variety of clients, showing a strong grasp of financial processes in a technical environment.
To get a clearer picture of his work experience and growth, we asked both Aleksandros and his supervisor a few questions.
How did Aleksandros’ supervisor experience the collaboration with Port of Opportunities?
“Aleksandros started his journey here by supporting our emission reporting activities and quickly immersed himself in learning the systems we use. He sits in the same workspace as the vessel managers, which allowed him to absorb a lot by listening and asking questions early on. His curiosity and willingness to understand the maritime industry – even without prior knowledge – truly stood out.
One of the challenges we encountered was the language barrier: our team communicates primarily in Dutch. However, Aleksandros has been very eager to learn and already picks up Dutch words. We’ve also made efforts to adjust and switch to English to support his integration.
What surprised us most was his quick learning curve and how effectively he takes on new challenges. He’s inquisitive, asks the right questions, and doesn’t hesitate to dive into the unknown. We’ve even taken him onboard one of our vessels to give him a more tangible understanding of the industry.
If everyone came in with Aleksandros’ attitude and curiosity, we’d be in a very good place – definitely a strong addition to the team!”
