What's Wasem's story up until now? 
Wasem is a 42-year-old Syrian man with a background as a 3rd engineer on ships. His childhood dream of a maritime career was temporarily set aside when he chose to work as a calligrapher at a university to be closer to his young family. However, in 2022, he left Syria and sought refuge in the Netherlands.

Wasem arrived in Rotterdam at the beginning of 2024, after having lived in several shelters in the Netherlands already. At this moment, he's waiting for a place to live in the municipality of Voorne aan Zee where he hopefully can be reunited with his family again. 

What kind of job/ future does Wasem see for himself? 
He's highly motivated to set foot in the Netherlands and to get reunited with his family. To really contribute to the community he knows speaking the local language is very important, so he taught himself the Dutch language, which he now (already) masters at B1 level. 

Wasem sees himself in a job where he can use his technical knowledge. He has experience with hydraulics and repair and maintain several kind of (diesel) engines,
