Meet this hardworking family man who is seeking a career ashore after years at sea.

As a young man, Valeriy decided to go for a career at sea, like many other Ukrainian young men. The romantic idea of seeing the whole world, combined with the tough sailor's life, seemed to appeal to Valeriy. Now many years later Valeriy is looking for a career ashore, or at least closer to home.

The current situation in Ukraine has made Valeriy realise that he can be thankful for his family and wants to spend more time with them (and friends). But what then? What does a man who has worked at sea for quite a few years and has not given it any further thought want? That is a difficult question for him to answer. On board of dredging ships (hoppers), his duties included the following:

  • navigation watch;
  • cargo load;
  • technical support.
